The bowl is finished to the desired wall thickness on the jam chuck

A look at the food court in the Student Center

The dining hall was a combination of students and symposium attendees

After lunch on Friday, I attended Mike Mahoney's session on Burial Urns with threaded lids

Mike hollows an urn ...

and checks it for inside surface quality

A drawing showing the inside side wall results depending on tool selection and technique

Mike explains why he uses Boxwood for his inserted threads

An example is passed around for everyone to examine

The Boxwood is hard enough to thread well and is inserted into the neck of the urn

Mike demonstrates the cutting of the thread

Here is a finished urn with the contrasting Blackwood top

The Blackwood not only contrasts but is a good wood to thread

A better look at the inserted Boxwood thread

My afternoon session was about marketing by Jerry Kermode

Jerry's session was well attended as he covered the techniques needed to be successful in the marketplace

Friday evening brought the traditional steak roast in the park

This year, the weather didn't cooperate at all

It was cold and rainy in general and even colder at this altitude

Everyone broke out their foul weather gear and headed for the high country
