Next up was David Nittmann, known for his Basket Illusion

David quickly shapes a multi-centered tool handle

The woodburner is heated and David signs his work with his customary spider logo

Does he look pleased at beating the time limit or what?

A closer look at the tool handle ...

complete with the wrapping

Michael Werner was the last of the turners in the Presenter's Showcase

Michael, working in wet wood, quickly fashions a natural edge bowl

With a power carver, he shapes the feet for the bowl

A sanding head mounted in the lathe allows him to finish shaping the bowls feet

The signature gets burned in ...

and the bowl is finished in less that 15 minutes

Some of the penturners gather in the hospitality suite for a drink and to decompress

Friday morning I attended Stuart Mortimer's Twisted Hollow Form session

This is a yet to be completed example of what he will make in this session

Stuart sketches out his technique for hollowing on the chalk board

The vessel is shaped in Walnut

Stuart goes over the common sense safety rules for using the power cutter

After marking the turning with his planned cut lines, he begins to cut the "windows"

He progressively makes them deeper
